Tailless Whip Scorpion by Christopher Marley

Tailless Whip Scorpion

Latin America

Also known as a Cave Spider, the tropical Tailless Whip Scorpion is really neither a spider nor a scorpion, but a completely unique order of Arachnid called Amblypygidae. The claws (known as pedipalps) are extremely efficient tools in procuring prey while the extremely long front legs are actually modified sensory organs.  They are exceedingly fast, nocturnal and possibly even social creatures.  Though ferocious hunters, whipscorpions are actually harmless to humans.  This doesn't, incidentally, make them any less hideous.
