The Conscious Kingdom

In her book, The Conscious Kingdom, author Tina Wilcox has "humanized" animals from her collection of humanely procured taxidermy-giving them each a fictional life story exhibiting the brilliance and flaws of all manner of human beings.

Tina believes that we have more in common with animals than not- and that there is only a soft, imaginary line separating human beings from animals. The physical differences are of degree, not kind. She reminds us that we humans are part of, not separate from, the Animal Kingdom. Her hope is that by "humanizing" these animals, it will allow us to view them in a different light, and inspire us to create a more compassionate world for these amazing creatures.

A portion of the proceeds from the book will be donated to the Animal Humane Society, to help them continue to shape the way our world cares for animals

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tina Wilcox is an animal lover and works passionately to protect and ensure the humane treatment of animals. Tina maintains that it is our responsibility as humans, regardless of age, to treat animals with compassion and benevolence. She believes that education in the humane treatment of animals is imperative, and needs to begin at a very young age to break the cycle of cruelty.

Tina has traveled over the years to flea markets, street markets, and antique fairs around the world. Her studio is filled with years of fabulous finds from these trips. From Elizabethan, Edwardian, and Victorian-era textiles, jewelry parts, and curiosities, her home is like visiting a delightfully bizarre, but meticulously curated museum. With pieces from her collections, Tina created each of the stories, costumes, photo sets, props, and styling for the book.
